Bursary/Scholarship

The Klintiendharm Foundation administers the Bursary/Scholarship offered to students studying at the International Buddhist College. This includes the following offering:

A) Metta Bursary

The Foundation offers Educational Assistance to two categories of the students:

1. New students (B.A. and Postgraduate)

95% of the total fees payable to deserving students as a form of financial assistance. A bursary student pays 5% of the remaining payable fees to the IBC Accounts Department.
Note (i):
Bursary recipient will be asked to pay a caution fee (10,000Baht) to the Foundation. This caution fee will be refunded when he/she has successfully completed his / her program of studies. However, if the student drops out of the course or fails in the examinations, the caution fee will not be refunded. For those who could not pay for the caution fee of 10,000baht, the institution has started an allowance system for them.

Note (ii):
A bursary recipient will be asked to pay 1,600Baht of Hostel fees per academic year if they are staying in-campus.

2. The existing B.A. and Postgraduate students (2nd year and above)

  • Applicants must be complete and submit the Bursary Application Form accordingly
  • Applicant must be a full-time student and enrolls course according to schedule set.
  • The G.P.A. computed determines the amount of Metta Bursary granted.

Metta Bursary is granted for a maximum of one academic year. Application must be made every year if a student wishes to receive continual Educational Assistance through Metta Bursary for subsequent academic years. The Metta Bursary is open for application beginning 1st of March. The completed application form and supporting documents must be submitted before the specified closing deadline 31st of March. Results of application will be announced on 1st of June. Successful applicants will be given written notification. Applications are assessed based on student's overall cumulative average G.P.A. The G.P.A. computed determines the amount of Metta Bursary granted for each academic year.

Bursary Scale

*Applicable only to existing B.A. and postgraduate students (2nd year and above)

a. Postgraduate

  • A student who obtains 3.60 and above G.P.A. shall be granted 100% of the bursary.
  • A student who obtains 3.40 and above G.P.A. shall be granted 95% of the bursary.
  • A student who obtains 3.20 and above G.P.A. shall be granted 90% of the bursary.
  • A student who obtains 3.00 and above G.P.A. shall be granted 80% of the bursary.
  • A student who obtains below 3.00 G.P.A. shall be granted 70% of the bursary.

b. Undergraduate (B.A. Program)

  • A student who obtains 3.50 and above G.P.A. shall be granted 100% of the bursary.
  • A student who obtains 3.25 and above G.P.A. shall be granted 95% of the bursary.
  • A student who obtains 3.00 and above G.P.A. shall be granted 90% of the bursary.
  • A student who obtains 2.75 and above G.P.A. shall be granted 80% of the bursary.
  • A student who obtains 2.50 and above G.P.A. shall be granted 70% of the bursary.
  • A student who obtains below 2.50 G.P.A. shall be granted 60% of the bursary.

The bursary scale is liable to revisions and the Foundation reserves the right, to increase or make modifications to the terms and conditions of the Metta Bursary without prior notice.

Submission of Application Form:

An applicant has to submit an error free Bursary Application form prior to or by noon of the deadline specified (31st of March).

The Bursary Committee will review each application and the relevant supporting documents which include the student's application form, the autobiography, the recommendation letter by a temple abbot or equivalent. If the committee approves the application, the applicant will be notified in writing.

Please attach together with the application form a recommendation letter written by either a temple abbot or equivalent together with a brief self-introduction and all certified true copies of relevant certificates and awards that you may have been granted.

Bursary recipient will be asked to pay a caution fee (10,000Baht) to the Foundation. This caution fee will be refunded when he/she has successfully completed one full academic year in the program of studies. If the student drops out of the course or fails in the examinations, the caution fee will not be refunded.

Bursary recipient will be asked to pay 3,200Baht of Hostel fees per academic year if they are staying in-campus.

The Metta Bursary is granted for a maximum of one academic year. However, in the event if the bursary holder should show very poor conduct and academic performance, the bursary may be revoked and terminated after one semester upon decision deliberated by the Bursary committee.

B) Academic Recognition – Dean’s List

A student of the Dean's List exemplifies a dedication and commitment to his / her studies. A student of the Dean’s List who achieves a minimum academic average GPA grade of 3.76 And conduct grade of 3.01 in the semester shall be awarded a certificate and 1,000 Baht provided that during the semester:

  • the student has enrolled as full-time student and be graded on minimum of 3 courses in MA or 5 courses in BA (with credits)
  • the student has completed all courses on time;

The criteria for the Dean’s List are liable to revisions and the Foundation reserves the right, to increase or make modifications to the terms and conditions of the Dean’s List award without prior notice.

Appeal (Applicable for 2nd year students and above)

A student receiving bursary lower than 80% is permitted to make an appeal to the Foundation. Anyhow, the appeal will not be considered if the G.P.A. is less than 2.00 for students of the B.A. program and less than 2.75 G.P.A. for postgraduate students.

Submission of an appeal does not guarantee approval. Appeals are assessed individually based upon the nature of the student’s academic performance, conduct, College policies, funding restrictions, and supporting documents.
