The New Students Orientation Program, 2011
International Buddhist College, Korat Education Center has organized an Orientation Program for new students this morning on the 7th of July -until the 9th of July to welcome in the new Academic Year 2011-2012. The Program was conducted in the presence of Ven. Zhen Chan, Prof. Kapila Abhayawansa, Prof. Tilak Kariyawasam and Ven. Dr. Dhammanandi.
Ven. Zhen Chan, the Director of Students Affairs has welcomed the new students by his Welcoming Speech. He vividly shared his experience and challenges working towards reaching the goals of IBC. He extended best wishes for the new students to strive to have inner qualities of patience, tolerance, loving kindness and compassion through the IBC community way of life.
Prof. Kapila Abhayawansa, the Dean, Faculty of Religious Studies has also welcomed the new students and described the important role of learning Buddhism, referring the early texts. He emphasized the importance of learning Buddhism in a modern society irrespective of cultures and races.
Prof. Dr. Tilak Kariyawasam, the Dean, Graduate School of Buddhist Studies has welcomed the new students and highly commended the IBC for showing their initiative in providing Scholarships and Bursaries for monastic and the lay community since it was established in 2005.
Ven. Dr. Dhammanandhi, the Dean, Faculty of Liberal Arts has welcomed the new students and wished for all students to have harmonious communal living.
A Welcome Lunch greatly appreciated by all the students and they wish to thank the staff and senior students for their hard work in preparing such a delicious lunch.
In the afternoon, the members of Orientation Committee arranged for sessions where all new, and senior students had the opportunity to meet one another and share ideas and opinions in a Ice-breaking forum.
