IBC joined the United Nations Day of Vesak 2011
The 8th Conference of the United Nations Day of Vesak, held from May 11 ΓÇô 14, 2011 and organized by Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalay University with the support of the Royal Thai Government and the Supreme Sangha Council of Thailand. This Vesak Day marked the auspicious celebration of the "2600th Birth Anniversary of the Lord Buddha", coincidentally the 84th Birthday Anniversary of His Majesty the King of Thailand also celebrated.
Mainstream Buddhist followers to renowned scholars from about 80 countries participated in the Conference. The Board members, staff and students of IBC joined in the Conference, the theme of which was the ΓÇÌBuddhist Virtues in Socio-Economics Development' followed by four academic sessions, they were-
- Buddhist Leadership and Socio-Economic Development
- Building a Harmonious Society
- Environmental Preservation and Restoration
- Wisdom for Awakening Society
On May 13, Ven. Wei Wu, the founder of IBC, and Ven. Zhen Chan, the Director of Students Affairs joined in the Common Buddhist Text Workshop's panel discussion which was held to promote better understanding of Buddhist principles amongst the wider public by compiling a Common Buddhist text, which will reflect the richness of the Theravada, Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhist tradition as well as the needs of today's society.
And also, the students of IBC helped the organizing committee of the Conference as being volunteers. IBC as a proud to be a member of International Association of Buddhist Universities, and has been playing an important role through the participation at all Conferences.
