Trip to Jim Thompson

On the 9/1/2016, IBC professors, staff and students, altogether 23 members made another visit to the Jim Thompson Farm. It is one of the most popular holiday destinations which attracts thousands of visitors every year.

Highlights of the Farm Tour that we have enjoyed and visited are mushroom cultivation, hydroponic flower gardens, silkworm rearing, decorative plant nurseries and large fields of colourful flowers and sunflowers waving in the bright sunshine.

The giant pumpkin patch still remains our favourite attraction. The variety in shapes and sizes of the multitude of pumpkins on display in the fields and already harvested are truly impressive and provide endless opportunities for our memorable photographs.

Isan Village
The Isan and Korat villages are star attractions featuring antique houses unique in architecture and in pristine condition. These traditional Isan and Korat houses and various structures commonly found in rural areas are fast disappearing. The village project is an effort to conserve, as well as preserve, the fast disappearing architecture, crafts and style of living in north eastern Thailand. We were happy to see Jim Thompson seeks to preserve this rich cultural heritage of the Thai-Lao people who inhabit north eastern Thailand.

We were told there was The Haw Tri or Buddhist Library in the past. Due to the decline of the art of inscribing religious texts onto palm leaf, it is almost extinct in Isan now. We hope Jim Thompson will able to install and preserve this Isan art.

Lastly, we also visited the Isan village houses, rice barns, a guardian spirit house and the most impressive Haw Jaek or village sala. We bought back home some nice lovely gifts.
