A Memorable Day: Celebrating Professor Tilak's Birthday and Welcoming Our New Rector

On Tuesday, 10th September 2024, at 5 pm, we gathered in the C3 classroom to celebrate two significant events - Prof. Tilak Kariyawasam’s birthday and the welcoming of our new Rector, Prof. Mattia Salvini. All faculty members and students participated in this joyous occasion.

Prof. Tilak expressed his genuine appreciation for the birthday celebration which was thoughtfully prepared. The IBC family presented him with a birthday gift, and we all sang "Happy Birthday" songs (English and Chinese) in his honor. Besides that, Sangha members also chanted for Professor’s good health and longevity.

Following that, we warmly welcomed Prof. Mattia Salvini as he stepped into his new role. In his humble speech, he reminded us that despite his new position, he remains one of us, unchanged by title. After his speech, IBC presented him a special gift to mark this new chapter. Prof. Mattia has been a valuable part of the IBC community for a long time.

The day ended on a sweet note, with drinks, cakes, snacks, and warm conversations. It was a beautiful coincidence that Prof. Tilak’s birthday and the welcoming ceremony happened on the same day, making September 10 a truly memorable day for all of us. We will carry this memory with us for years.

Last but not least, a big “Thank You” to all members for joining this simple, yet meaningful event. IBC always serves as a place for us to learn and practice Buddhism!
