Successful Completion of 'English is Fun' Class
Reported by: Yin Hlaing Htet, BA4 student
The two-month weekend English program organized by International Buddhist College (IBC) was successfully completed on Sunday, September 29. The program started with the theme “English is Fun." According to the theme, all the participants had fun and learned what is necessary for the period of study in IBC.
The program mainly emphasized on speaking skills, writing skills and group work activities. For speaking skills, the teachers conducted two different activities: paired conversations and group conversations. In paired conversations, each pair randomly selected a topic and made a conversation in front of the class. From that, we learned speaking style, correct way of speaking and vocabulary usage. In group conversations, we discussed “the four Brahmaviharas” which is a basic requirement in a society. It was an interesting activity because we discussed different perspectives about the four Brahmaviharas within groups. We learned how to practice the four Brahmaviharas in different situations in daily life.
For writing skills, the teachers first guided us through the writing format and then gave some topics to write. After that, the essays were corrected and shown on-screen. From that, we learned how to choose proper words, sentence construction, and transition words for a standard essay. For group work activities, we played some games, such as sentence puzzles and the spaghetti tower marshmallow challenge. From that, we learned how important teamwork is.
Overall, it was a program that had a lot of learning, fun, and memories!
