Public Speaking Friendship Competition

The International Buddhist College (IBC) organized the Public Speaking Friendship Competition on 25 October 2025. Three invited judges, Mdm. Lye Keok Wah, Mdm. H’ng Siew Tuan, and Ms. Irene Tan Guat Kee from Malaysia graciously participated in this event.
The objective of the competition was to help students build confidence in delivering speeches before an audience. It also served as an opportunity for students to learn and gain valuable experience in preparing and presenting their speeches. Above all, the event aimed to foster the right understanding that the true spirit of competition lies not in surpassing others, but in overcoming one’s own limitations and fears.
The judging criteria were based on three aspects: Content (30%), Delivery (40%), and Language (30%).
Ten students participated in the competition with the following speech titles:
1. Ven. Ananno:
Do Not Dwell in the Past, Do Not Dream in the Future, and Concentrate the Mind on the Present Moment
2. Ven. Supyinnyar:
The Significance of Self-Reflection
3. Mr. Jason Timothy Robbins:
The Exact Reasons Why I Came to Study at IBC
4. Ven. Nanasami:
Buddhist Principles for Finding Peace When We Lose Loved Ones
5. Ven. Wellane Ananda Thero:
The Benefits of Loving-Kindness
6. Ven. Karuna:
The Truth of Impermanence
7. Ven. Mongmongsing Marma:
The Connection Between Compassion and Wisdom in Buddhism
8. Ms. Yang Xue Qin (Felicia):
The Root of Suffering is Attachment
9. Ven. Anik Barua:
Peace Comes from Within. Do Not Seek It Without
10. Ven. Indacariya:
Honouring Those Worthy of Honour
Winners of the Competition:
1st Prize: Ven. Anik Barua
2nd Prize: Ven. Supyinnyar
3rd Prize: Ven. Wellane Ananda Thero
Consolation Prize: Ms. Yang Xue Qin (Felicia)
Certificate of Participation and Prizes were presented by Ven. Dhananjoy and Ven. Dr. Zhen Ti respectively to all the contestants. As a gesture of appreciation, small tokens of gifts were also offered to all the judges in recognition of their commitment and generosity in sponsoring the hampers for the winners.
Last but not least, the International Buddhist College (IBC) extends its heartfelt congratulations to all the winners and participants for their commendable efforts and inspiring speeches. Sincere appreciation is also expressed to the IBC community, the judges, the participants, and everyone who supported this event either directly or indirectly, making it a meaningful and successful occasion.
