Dean’s List Award for First Semester, AY2025/2026
The International Buddhist College (IBC) organized a simple ceremony for the Dean’s List Award for the First Semester of the Academic Year 2025/2026 on 8 January 2026 (Thursday) at 9:30 a.m. in C3 Classroom. The aim is to promote the quality of its students in both academic and conduct, thereby fostering personality development. IBC firmly believes that conduct is purified by knowledge (wisdom) and knowledge is purified by conduct (sīlaparidhotāpaññā, paññāparidhotaṁ sīlaṁ), and that these two must be developed together to complete a student’s education.
Prof. Mattia Salvini (Dharmavardhana-Jñānagarbha) discussed the complex origins of the concept of "Dean", which passes through ancient Roman military units, small groups of early medieval Christian monks, and Christian universities, as well as the likely North American origin of things like "Dean's Lists" and other such awards. Prof. Vardhana also suggested to rely on the Thai term for a dean, i.e. Gaṇapati, and to remember how Gaṇapati is an important Buddhist deity with various auspicious roles in different traditions.
The students who achieved the Dean’s List Award for the First Semester of the Academic Year 2025/2026 are as follows:
1. Ven. Supyinnyar (B.A. in Buddhist Textual Studies)
2. Ms. Yang Xueqin (B.A. in Buddhist Studies)
Congratulations to both awardees! We hope this achievement serves as motivation for other students to excel in both academic and ethical performance.
Thank you to all members who participated in this event.
