Vesak 2026: A Dhamma Gathering at IBC
International Buddhist College (IBC) organized a simple yet meaningful Vesak ceremony on the morning of 31st May, 2026. As it was the long vacation, only a few lecturers and students remained on campus. However, the wish to commemorate the Buddha's precious day brought us together to carry out chanting of the three Buddhist traditions, bathe the Buddha, and listen to a Dhamma talk by our lecturer, Ven. Khenpo Rangdrol.
Our staff members also took the opportunity to participate in the event the following day.
In his Dhamma sharing, Ven. Khenpo explained how a Bodhisatta first generated bodhicitta before the Buddha Maha Muni, and then accumulated wisdom and merit, over a long period of time, before finally being born as Prince Siddhattha in India. Upon reaching adulthood, he left the palace, practiced for six years, and became the fully enlightened Buddha, thereafter teaching beings to free themselves from samsara and attain enlightenment. Touching on the way of practicing his teachings, in Theravada Buddhism, meditation begins with the development of renunciation; while in Mahayana Buddhism, one first develops bodhicitta, followed by the main practice, wrapped by dedication.
Ven. Khenpo then led everyone in practicing the three types of aspiration. First, may I dispel all ignorance of sentient beings! Second, may I illuminate wisdom in the mind streams of all sentient beings! Third, may I propagate the Buddha Dhamma throughout the world!
The ceremony concluded meaningfully, with joy arising from the Dhamma teaching.
