Basic Thai Language Class
Reported by: Sayalay Obhasi
The International Buddhist College (IBC) organised a Basic Thai Language Class from 6th August to 24th September 2026. Classes were held every Thursday for a total of seven sessions. The instructor was Miss Rudeeduan Somkasedrin, a member of the College’s administrative staff.
As international students studying and living in Thailand, we inevitably need to speak some basic Thai with the local people. Besides that, an understanding of the language helps us appreciate Thai culture more deeply.
Over the course of these seven weeks, we covered a range of lessons, including consonants, vowels, frequently used vocabulary, asking for directions and places, words for body parts, and ordering food at restaurants.
For students learning Thai for the first time, considerable effort was required to master correct tones, memorise vocabulary, and practise speaking. Students gradually became able to speak some basic Thai under the instructor's guidance. It was an enjoyable learning experience and the students hope that future classes will be longer so that they can make further progress in speaking Thai.
We sincerely thank the International Buddhist College (IBC) for arranging this interesting and useful course for the students.
