Applications are invited for the following academic programs for the next academic year that begins in July.

IBC is offering the following programs:

Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies
Bachelor of Arts in Scriptural Language and Literature
Bachelor of Arts in Historical and Cultural Studies

Two plans for full-time students who intend to complete the program in three regular semesters:

    1. Plan I: Course-work of 33 credit hours and a minor research project of 3 credit hours spread over three regular semesters of 16-17 weeks per regular semester, with or without a summer semester of 8 weeks' duration;
    2. OR

    3. Plan II: Course work of 24 credit hours and a thesis (12 credit hours) spread over three semesters as above.

Doctor of Philosophy Program in Buddhist Studies
(International program/New Curriculum 2007) (48 credits in English or Chinese Medium)

  • Major Principles of Education at International Buddhist College

 

  1. • Equal respect: respect all major Buddhist traditions equally in promoting teachings of all traditions, learning and practicing.
  2. • Balanced Modernity and Spiritual Growth: Adopting latest methodology and technology in academic research; fostering excellence in scholarship and promoting spiritual cultivation and religious life.
  3. • Communication to reach out to many: Use of two major international languages, English and Chinese as the medium of instruction, learning and research in Pali, Sanskrit, Chinese and Tibetan Buddhist scriptures.


Objective
Promote Buddhist culture; train students to be highly skilled in spreading the teachings of the Buddha; foster international academic integration; deepen mutual understanding of all traditions; and provide service that benefits the public.

Applications: applications are accepted all year round and processed three times a year;
• Applications for admission to the July semester will be closed at the end of June.

  1. • Applications for admission to the November semester will be closed at the end of October.
  2. • Applications for admission to the summer (May) semester will be closed in the middle of April.

Entry Qualifications:
Bachelor of Arts Degree Program (English Medium)
1, A certificate of high school (Grade 6) or Equivalent.
2. Or have level five of Pali with level 3 in Dhamma of certificate.

Master of Arts Degree Program (English and Chinese Medium)
1. A four year bachelor degree from a recognized or accredited tertiary institution, with a minimum grade point average of 2.75
2. Or have level nine of Pali certificate.
Doctor of Philosophy Program in Buddhist Studies (English and Chinese Medium)

  1. Holders of Master’s degree or equivalent, with good academic records (GPA of 3.5 or higher ) :
  2. Academic background in Buddhist Studies or others related fields is not absolutely essential but is an asset.
  3. Proficiency in English language as indicated by at TOFEL: score of at least 550 or equivalent.
    A. Chinese language for those intending to do the program in Chinese.

Selection: Entrance Examination and Interview
Selection of candidates will be based on entrance qualifying examination and interview.
Entrance examination and interview will be conducted in June or early November or early April for the July, November and summer semesters respectively.
